Dear co-laborer,
This month as we express our gratitude to God through Jesus Christ for his goodness and good gifts to us, I am thankful for our unchanging Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The truth God has given us in Hebrews 13:8—“Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever”—has comforted and challenged me throughout this year. I pray that you too will rest in and zealously labor for our unchanging Lord and Savior, regardless of what may be happening in the world. Since my last prayer letter in August much has happened in my family’s life, the church I pastor, and the American Council of Christian Churches. Knowing your faithful prayers and support, I am thankful for this opportunity to share some of the details during this time with you.
Trish and I rejoiced in the birth of our fifth grandchild, a boy, in August. Trish was able to be with them to encourage and help. Early in September Trish spent a couple of days in the hospital when a blood clot formed deep in one of her veins. We are thankful for good care and the Lord’s sustaining grace and mercies. She has recovered quite well, praise the Lord. Late September our church, Orwell Bible Church, rejoiced at the testimonies, baptisms, and additions to membership of two young ladies. During September 26–29 I greatly enjoyed being with Pastor Bill Lueke and the Hope Evangelical Methodist Church in Youngstown, PA for their Fall Bible conference.
October was one of the busiest months that I can remember! During this month Orwell Bible Church made good progress in preparing the inside of our new building for renovation work. The Council mourned and rejoiced at the homegoing of Alice Colas, wife of past executive secretary Dr. Ralph Colas. Then, of course, the ACCC annual convention! The convention was a wonderful, encouraging, instructive, and challenging time hosted by the dear folks of Hardingville Bible Church in Monroeville, NJ. The general and breakout sessions were a tremendous blessing; these will soon be available on the ACCC’s website (go to the “Resources” page and then “Sermons”). The Contender’s Award was awarded to longtime ACCC executive committee member Dr. Frank McClelland. We rejoice that the Council is in good financial condition, finishing our fiscal year in the black. Six resolutions were adopted; you can read these on the Council’s website (go to the “Resources” page and then “Resolutions”) and are available in full page, bulletin insert, and pamphlet formats. The resolutions are:
- ACCC 80th Anniversary Convention Theme: “Jesus Christ the Same Yesterday, Today, and Forever”
- The Importance of Voting for Pro-Life Candidates
- Women and the Local Church
- God’s Sovereignty Over Beauty
- Christians and Tattooing
- Public Education in America

Late October and early November is often “catch up” time for me following the annual convention, and this year was no different. Our church finalized the various architectural and mechanical engineering drawings required by the county and has contracted with a septic engineer for those services. Please pray with us regarding our building that the Lord will continue to guide and provide. This week our sixth grandchild, a boy, was born at 21 weeks, and sadly did not live. This was the first child for the parents; please pray for the Lord’s sustaining grace and mercy for them. The next day our seventh grandchild was born, a healthy girl. We look forward to seeing her soon!
Like you, the next few months will be busy with family, church, and other activities. Through these times always praise and thank the Lord for who he is (Heb 13:8)—that is your “occupation” no matter where you’re at in life! “While I live I will praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being,” Psalm 146:2.
