Standing against the Destructive Sin of Homosexuality

American Council of Christian Churches
73rd Annual Convention, October 21-23, 2014
Bible Presbyterian Church, Apollo, Pennsylvania
Resolution on Standing against the Destructive Sin of Homosexuality

The apostle Paul described heaven’s wrath revealed upon a pagan society as a reprobation that involves a series of societal changes. In this process the truth of God is exchanged for a lie (Rom. 1:25), the glory of the incorruptible Creator is exchanged for the image of the corruptible creature (v. 23), and the natural relationship between husband and wife is exchanged for homosexual sin (vv. 26-27). With the expulsion of biblical authority from public education and legal discourse, with the adoption of evolution’s denial of the Creator in favor of the creature, and with the legislative solemnization of what God calls a vile affection, the United States has made these exchanges from Christianity to paganism official. Our reprobate nation is under the wrath of God for these things.

The advance of homosexual sin has been swift in recent years. By refusing to hear appeals from five states related to their prohibitions against homosexual marriage last October 6, the Supreme Court effectively made homosexual marriage legal in thirty states. The Defense of Marriage Act could not be defended from the political force of this rush to reprobation. The repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell has changed what it means to serve in our nation’s armed forces. This past year the New Hampshire legislature became the first state body to take up a constitutional amendment protecting homosexuality as a natural right. The measure was put on hold by the state’s House because the amendment was not generous enough to the desires of people who claim to be transgender. August governmental institutions that once debated the great doctrines of democracy upon which our great republic was founded now occupy themselves with discussions about why men ought to be allowed to use women’s bathrooms. These are signs of reprobation.

Religious institutions continue to signal a willingness to support these changes. The Presbyterian Church USA passed an amendment to its Book of Order that would change the definition of marriage to accommodate the sin of homosexuality. An interim report from a meeting of 200 bishops at the Vatican has indicated Roman Catholicism’s intention to moderate its position on homosexuality. Evangelical educational institutions have come under pressure to study their stance on this sin or risk losing their accreditation. Popular evangelical leaders have produced mixed messages on the issue. Ministries that once sought to convert homosexuals from the sinfulness of their ways now apologize for having done so. These are signs of reprobation.

Therefore, the American Council of Christians Churches, at its annual convention, October 21-23, 2014, at the Bible Presbyterian Church of Apollo, PA, reaffirms its stand against the sin of homosexuality. We denounce this sin as a destructive force of American paganism, savaging the lives of those under its bondage and of the society they have convinced to support it. With the encouragement of the apostle Paul, we determine to preach the gospel to our reprobate nation, believing that it alone is the power of God unto salvation to everyone who believes.
